Salt Lake City, UT: Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker and the Division of Sustainability and the Environment recently certified Schneider Auto Karosserie as an e2 Businesses creating Utah’s first “green” auto body repair shop.
To obtain the certification Schneider Auto proved its commitment to the environment in three areas. The company switched to water based paint products, which reduces hazardous waste and volatile emissions by up to 80 percent. They instituted a strict waste reduction program including recycling many automotive parts, steel, aluminum, plastics and cardboard. And lastly, the shop has committed to reducing its electricity consumption 10 percent by replacing incandescent light bulbs with energy efficient LED, reprogramming thermostats, shutting off equipment and purchasing Blue Sky Credits.
“We appreciated that [Schneider Auto Karosserie] has taken a leadership roll in environmental stewardship within the community,” says Bridget Stuchly, Outreach Coordinator of the e2 Business Program. “You have helped make Salt Lake a cleaner and more vibrant community.”
