Discussion points for you and your insurance agent

Discussion points for you and your insurance agent

Here’s some advice to think about before you have the need to make a claim.

  • Check your policy liability limits

In Utah the minimum requirement for property damage liability insurance is $15,000. That means if you are at fault in an accident your insurance company will only pay up to $15,000 to fix the other vehicle(s), and any other damage you may have caused. You could be personally responsible for anything over that amount. If you do not want to be at risk, talk to your agent about higher limits. It will not add much to your premiums, and helps you sleep better.

  • Verify that you have rental car coverage on your policy

Most drivers think ‘full coverage’ includes rental car coverage.  The time to find out is before you need it, and it sure makes things easier if you are in an accident. Rental car coverage costs typically add less than $20 in premiums every 6 months, and saves you from bumming rides or waiting at bus stops to get to work, school, or the slopes.

  • Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) vs aftermarket parts

Most insurance companies will recommend the least expensive parts for repairs. That means repairing your vehicle using aftermarket parts made in China or Taiwan or used parts form a wrecking yard. If it is important to you to have new, genuine parts on your beloved car or truck, then talk to your agent about getting a policy that specifies whether OEM or aftermarket parts will be used for your repair.

Note: A good insurance agent is worth their weight in gold. It is great to have someone to discuss a potential claim with before deciding whether it makes sense to actually file a claim.

Receiving an Estimate

Schneider Auto Karosserie understands that a car accident can cause confusion, anxiety, and frustration – especially as you begin the claims process with your insurance company and seek out vehicle repair.

We are here to help.

After reporting your accident to your insurance agent, you will want to get an estimate for the costs of the repairs and the time required to get your vehicle back to pre-accident condition.

Follow these helpful steps:

  1.   Choose your collision shop

You get to choose who repairs your vehicle.

Your insurance company can (and likely will) provide recommendations but ultimately, the choice is yours. Follow up, read reviews, contact friends, and ask the mechanics you already trust.

  1.      Drop in or make an appointment for an estimate

Call us (801)-484-9400.  Schneider Auto is open for business 8:30-5:30, M-F and has an estimator at the ready to greet you. You can also contact us online by sending your vehicle info, damage, and photos for a free estimate at: https://www.schneiderauto.net/estimates/

There is no law that requires you to get more than one estimate.

In the past, many insurers have required that you receive more than one estimate.

  1.      Getting an estimate

One of our estimators will discuss the damage with you, take photos, assess damage, and hand you a preliminary estimate. Also included is a timeline for the repairs, and we can discuss convenient dates for you to drop off your vehicle. We also provide shuttle service to help get you to and from our shop whenever possible.

  1.      Making a claim

If you haven’t already, initiate a claim. Once initiated, we can take over and make it as easy as possible for you and your family. Please call us if any pieces of the claims process seem confusing. As you know, we are here to help.

  1.      Bringing your vehicle in

Vehicle repair and making customers happy is our business. On your scheduled drop-off day, feel confident about leaving your car in the hands of one of our representatives. We also provide shuttle service to help you get to and from our shop (within reason!).

Going Green. Being Green. Staying Green.

Schneider Auto Karosserie’s owner Margrit Schneider has always been conscious of her individual impact on the environment. She is an avid gardener, and has recycled and composted for as long as she can remember. In 2010 she took unprecedented steps to transition her auto body shop, traditionally a grimy and sometimes even toxic zone, into a clean, environmentally-conscious business and regional industry leader in recycling and waste management.

Schneider Auto switched to water-based paint products, which not only reduce harmful emissions into the ozone but also better match your car’s original paint. It also created a recycling system to reduce waste from automotive parts, steel, aluminum, rubber, and plastics.

“It’s always been a priority to reduce, reuse and recycle as much as possible personally” Schneider said. “Extending that to Schneider Auto Karosserie just made sense, and it saves us money!”

To further reduce its carbon footprint, Schneider Auto began participating in the Rocky Mountain Blue Sky Program, purchasing renewable energy credits to help reduce carbon dioxide emissions – the equivalent of taking 15,000 miles of car travel off of our roads and helping to “Clear The Air.”

Even the smallest opportunity to effectuate change was not overlooked to help reduce, reuse, and recycle. Front-of-house began purchasing eco-friendly supplies and products, from LED light bulbs to recycled paper and the installation of a low water usage toilet.

In 2011, Schneider Auto was certified as an e2 business and Utah’s first green auto body repair shop.

More recent efforts include adding skylights, insulated doors, and programmable thermostats throughout the shop; recycling efforts continue, as does the gardening, and making environmentally-conscious decisions a priority to all staff.

Schneider Auto believes firmly that this is an important step in serving its customers and the greater community in a dedicated effort to fulfill its mission of making customers happy – and healthier!

We make it easy

We make it easy.

Here at Schneider Auto Karosserie our job is to make the collision repair process as easy for you as possible.

Margrit Schneider was part of the original management team that started Schneider Auto Karosserie (Karosserie means “body work” in German) back in 1984. Even then, a vision of making discerning European vehicle owners happy existed and drove the mission of the business.

Over the years, Schneider honed its mission: Schneider Auto Karosserie is in the business of making discerning customers happy by providing high quality collision repairs and restoring your vehicle to pre-accident condition. We provide a positive customer service experience and act as your advocate with your insurance company.

Schneider now works on most vehicles, domestic and foreign. On any given weekday you will see just as many Subaru, Honda, and Toyota vehicles as you will Audi, BMW, and Porsches.

We can help with anything, minor to major, from polishing minor scratches to complex structural repairs. And we will continue to strive to make the process as easy for you as possible, from arranging for a rental car to negotiating directly with your insurance company to ensure that your needs are addressed and met, that your vehicle is truly returned to pre-accident condition, and that an often frustrating experience becomes a positive one.
